This Was Not The Greatest Super Bowl Of All Time

The era of "everything I just saw was obviously the greatest thing that ever happened in history" has to stop.

Please.

The fourth quarter of this Pittsburgh-Arizona Super Bowl was extremely entertaining, and the Fitzgerald and Holmes TDs were amazing plays. But this wasn't a particularly well-played or well-coached game. The first half would have been 100% awful had it not been for James Harrison's 100-yard interception return.

This was not the greatest Super Bowl ever played.

Let me name Super Bowls in my lifetime that were better overall games than this one:

1) Pats-Giants
2) Giants-Bills
3) Rams-Titans
4) 49ers-Bengals (second one)
5) Pats-Panthers
6) Pats-Rams

I wouldn't rate this year's game above any of those six.

Also, in terms of entertaining quarters of football in a Super Bowl, this fourth quarter ranks high, but not necessarily higher than, say, the second quarter of the Redskins-Broncos game where the Redskins scored 35 points.

In terms of ends of games, this was up there, but not as good as the Rams-Titans end with the tackle one the one.

So, please, sports journalism and the internet, let's calm down and keep this game in perspective. A relatively bad game redeemed by an exciting fourth quarter.

Carry on.

Broncos/Packers was a great game too.

After Sunday, Kurt Warner's career SB stats are:

73 Att, 132 Cmp, 55.3% cmp, 1156 yards, 6 TD, 3 INT.

Over 16 games, that would be:

389 Att, 704 Cmp, 55.3% Cmp, 6165 yards, 32 TD, 16 INT.

I guess Warner is HOF worthy. This is admittedly a small sample size (3 games), but it's clear that Warner came up huge in the biggest games he played.

He also has more yards in the super bowl than both John Elway and Joe Montana while playing in fewer games. This super bowl is memorable for one thing. For the first time in my NFL watching career I finally got to see a running into the holder call.

I agree with all the sentiments here.

Yes the game was bad, but the finish was great. What is so silly in annointing this game the best ever is it had the exact same finish as last years game, and it is like every sports analyst had a brain fart and was saying "I cannot ever remember a Super Bowl ending like this." Der, last year you morons.

And yes Warner has been remarkable in Super Bowls. He is worthy of being put amongst the games greats in Kris DeBlasio's Official Hall of Fame, which incidentally elected Cris Carter the day he retired (we dont have a five year waiting period). We also elect as many or as few guys as we want every year.
