You shouldn't have. The Superman (look where he jumps from!) The Birthday Cake (he blew out the candle!) The Ridiculous Self-Alley-Oop (actual humans shouldn't be able to do this!)

Ok Daniel, I missed the contest, but only because we had a game. I have seen all the dunks and I only have a few things to say.
First two me there are certain moments in Dunk Contest History where the contest should have ended immediately, because they are the moments that revolutionized the contest and the dunk shot itself.
Moment 1: Spud Fucking Webb, that was out of control.
Moment 2: Isiah JR Rider going threw his own legs and dunking, nobody saw that coming, it was almost inhuman, I was unable to comprehend what I saw.
Moment 3: Vinsanity. He took the contest into the 21st century. His 360 windmill reverse spinning the wrong way still defies all principles of gravity.
Moment 4: Andre Igoudala. He somehow floated in the air, didn't hit his head, and relifted himself to be able to dunk the ball after coming from underneath the basket. I just described the dunk and it makes no sense, you have to see it to believe it. That dunk contest should have ended right there, Nate Robinson had no right winning that contest, I dont care if he jumped over Yao Ming.
That being said, Howard did add his own twist onto Iggy's dunk but realistically I saw it already. And as for the Superman dunk, where he left the floor from was crazy, but he didnt dunk the ball.
Jon Landau wrote after seeing a performance at the Harvard Square Theater, "I saw rock and roll future and its name is Bruce Springsteen." How right he was. Well to paraphrase, I have seen the future of the Slam Dunk and its name is Deron Washington, he happens to be my boy too so that of course makes it even cooler.

Let me answer:
Howard's behind the backboard dunk was a variation on Igggy's, but it was an improvement: first, he did a windmill on it, and second, his head stayed behind the backboard.
That doesn't take away from Iggy's, and you're right, he should have won that contest.
Also, the best dunk Howard did was the self-alley-oop. I've never seen that before, and the degree of difficulty is beyond comprehension. He takes the bounce, then in the air taps it off the backboard with his left, catches with his right, and dunks clean and hard. No f'ing way.
The Superman dunk was cool because of the showmanship, and I don't care if he threw it in, it still looked awesome.
Although when it's all said and done, I think we'll remember the Birthday Cake for longer. That was as under appreciated this year as the Sticker dunk was last year. Creativity off the charts, and perfect execution.
Other memorable dunks for me, besides the ones you mentioned:
Amare dunking off the Steve Nash header.
Josh Smith putting on the Dominique jersey and doing the tomahawk.
J.R. Smith going behind his back in the air.
Look those up. And I can't wait to see what guys come up with next year.
